Create Space artists
Meet the artists.
Find the person whose experience, perspective and chair feel right for your hair story.
Find your hair partner
Different perspectives. One welcoming space.
Every Create Space artist brings a different hair story and background behind the chair, and that is by design. Our goal is to match you with the hair partner who just gets it. You are welcome to try different chairs until you find the fit that feels right; our team supports that match, even when it is with someone else.
Levels reflect career progression, continued education, experience and service investment. They help you choose a fit for your goals, timing and budget, not a ranking of care.
Junior Level 1
Artists beginning their professional salon journey with close team support and the most accessible service investment.
Junior Levels 2-3
Artists with established foundations who continue to grow through education, experience and increasing demand.
Senior Levels 1-3
Established artists with advanced experience, continued education and growing demand, reflected in service investment.

Jaime Powell
she/her
When Jaime says, “I get it,” she really does. She has bleached her own hair past its limits and straightened it with a clothing iron. Alopecia had her hiding under hoodies, followed by a season of truly questionable wigs. Eventually, she buzzed it off and learned to care for the Type 2C curls she once tried so hard to erase.
Hair was not the original plan, but since stepping behind the chair in 2009, Jaime has turned it into an award-winning career built around thoughtful transformations, honest education and healthy hair.
Jaime leads with vulnerability and is often the first to share the imperfect parts of her own story if it helps someone else feel less alone. That openness carries into her chair, where nothing is off-limits and being heard without being corrected or dismissed is the standard. She will always be honest about what is realistic, explain the better path and build a plan around your hair, your life and your long-term goals.
Create Space grew from that same instinct. Jaime wanted people to have room to show up exactly as they are and leave feeling more like themselves. She is even more committed to the people in her salon, both behind the chair and sitting in it, than she is to her next Halloween costume (which says a lot if you’ve ever seen her on October 31).
It’s the small things that bring Jaime joy: her plants (no surprise if you’ve been in the salon), a perfectly ripe avocado, deodorant that actually works, a really good hug or a really good book. The day ends best with an early bedtime, a full heart and hair full of Shu Uemura Ultimate Reset Overnight Serum.
Rene Klassen
she/her
Bring Rene a hair goal and a sourdough question. She’ll have an honest answer for both. After twenty years behind the chair, she knows when a transformation can happen now and when the healthiest choice is to give it time. She’ll be kind about it, clear about it and make sure you leave with a plan that feels possible.
Off the clock, Rene is happiest somewhere between the river and the lake, with an ice-cold blackberry ginger ale in her hand and her daughter, husband and puppy by her side. She brings that grounded energy into the salon. There is room to talk hair, trade garden tips or simply settle into a chair where you feel heard.
Rene also has a lot of hair herself, which means she understands the importance of a good blowout and never rushes the finishing steps of your visit. As she adds the final touches, she’ll tell you to wash less, style less and make time for regular treatments. She’ll reach for Kérastase Chronologiste L’Huile de Parfum to add that just-left-the-salon shine before sending you out into the world feeling like your best self.
Courtney
she/her
Tell Courtney about a trip once and she’ll remember to ask how it went at your next appointment. Mention a renovation and she’ll want the update. Reality TV recaps are also treated with the seriousness they deserve. Time in her chair feels less like starting over and more like picking up the conversation exactly where you left it.
Courtney has been creating that kind of ease behind the chair since 2018. Whether you return after six weeks or six months, there is no guilt speech waiting for you. She offers a refreshment, takes in the hair in front of her and helps you choose what makes sense for your life now. You can catch up, settle into the quiet or enjoy a little of both.
Courtney’s favourite kind of reset starts with a swim at the beach and ends over tacos with the people she loves. She appreciates anything that makes life feel a little easier without asking much in return, which is exactly why she recommends Kérastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum. It works on dry hair while you sleep, so you wake up to softer, smoother strands that are easier to manage. One less job before coffee is always a win.
Melissa Balzer
she/her
Melissa graduated from hair school at John Casablanca Institute in April of 2020. Her favorite hair services to provide are colour treatments, especially highlights! Her goal as a hairstylist is to create a safe space for guests to be heard. Every day, she looks forward to providing you with a comfortable and positive experience. When she doesn’t have hands in hair, you can find her in the kitchen exploring new recipes.
Abigail
she/her
Behind the chair for three years, Abigail specializes in blonding services, lived-in colour, and custom transformations. She believes hair is more than just style—it’s an expression of who you are. A quote from her dance educator has stuck with her: “It’s an external expression of an internal reality.” This philosophy drives her passion for helping clients embrace their unique beauty.
When she’s not in the salon, you’ll find Abigail sipping a cozy cuppa tea, snacking on mini-eggs, or uncovering hidden gems on spontaneous adventures. She loves getting lost on purpose and following wherever curiosity takes her. Her go-to coffee order? A vanilla latte or caramel macchiato. And if she’s watching TV, you can bet it’s something war-related or deeply tragic—especially if it’s based on a true story.
What should you know before sitting in her chair? “If you ever watched The Princess Diaries, you remember the salon scene where she ‘becomes a princess’? My favourite part of working with my guests is giving them their Princess Diaries* moment of seeing their vision come to life. It absolutely fuels me, and the anticipation of us getting there? Kills me! I NEED to see it just as badly as you do! I am a total perfectionist… I honestly might be more picky than you.”
Lakeisha Hewitt
she/her
Lakeisha’s chair comes with an unofficial privacy policy: what is said there stays there. You can unpack your week, ask for a movie recommendation or enjoy the rare luxury of not having to talk at all. She’ll meet the version of you who showed up that day.
Since beginning her career in April 2023, Lakeisha has built her approach around one simple promise: no guest should feel like they are too much. Be specific. Change your mind. Ask the extra question. She would rather understand exactly what you need than have you sit quietly and hope.
Her own version of quiet is a book beside the river while her partner fishes. A pickle stand can derail the afternoon in the best possible way. For curls, she reaches for the Kérastase Curl Manifesto collection to keep them hydrated, defined and free to do their thing.
Rachel
she/her
Rachel has been behind the chair since January 2024, and she brings the same steady energy to a blonde transformation that she brings to a 6 a.m. spin class. She loves the process, but the real goal is confidence: hair that feels like you when you catch your reflection.
Her care language is a properly unhurried head massage. Her non-negotiable advice is much quicker: please do not go to bed with wet hair. Rachel believes trust starts with clear communication, so you can bring the excitement, the nerves or the questions and talk it through together.
Her version of a perfect day ends with sushi after a full salon shift. The finishing product in her corner is Kérastase Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops, a lightweight oil she likes for smooth, glossy hair without the heavy feel.
Bryna
she/her
Bryna has been behind the chair since 2019, with a soft spot for lived-in blondes and colour that feels beautifully personal. She believes great hair should look effortless, but the appointment itself should feel intentional. She takes her time, listens closely, and makes sure every plan works for the person who will be living with it.
Her Notes app is essentially her second brain, which says a lot about the thoughtful energy she brings to her chair. Bryna loves making a plan, noticing the small details, and creating that deeply satisfying feeling when everything falls into place. She is also always ready to trade a great shopping recommendation.
Whether you feel like chatting or settling into the quiet, Bryna will meet you where you are. And because she wants your hair to feel just as good between visits, she will probably send you home with one gentle reminder: don’t be afraid of hair oil. A few drops of Kérastase Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops through your mid-lengths and ends can keep your hair soft, healthy and beautifully shiny.
Allana Herrling
she/her
If the colour shelf is perfectly organized, Allana probably had something to do with it. She joined Create Space in 2021 because she believed in Jaime’s vision. Over time, she became an integral part of that vision and the person who keeps a hundred moving pieces from feeling like a hundred moving pieces.
Allana remembers what you shared last time you were in the salon and notices when someone needs a minute. She has a soft spot for fresh rain through the open salon door and laughs that turn into snorts. The best part of her job is watching a guest exhale because they know they can be fully themselves here.
Her ideal day begins with coffee beside her husband and ends outdoors with the kids and dog. Somewhere in between, she will probably recommend Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil for softness and shine. Of course, she knows exactly where it belongs on the shelf.
