And the entire Create Space Hair Co. team is continually brushing up on their skills and knowledge of the art of event styling. At the start of this season, we took part in yet another workshop with Tara-Lynn Fournier and West Coast Beauty Co.
Create Space Hair Co. is steadfast in its mission to celebrate, respect, and CREATE SPACE for the beauty of identity and diversity through the power of art, expression and the individual experience—and this extends to our mobile wedding hair services in the Chilliwack area.

How To Find Your Wedding Day Hairstyle
Hair up or down? Straight or curly? Should I wear extensions? What about hairpieces? Finding your wedding hairstyle is about more than following the latest bridal hair trends. It’s about feeling your most comfortable, beautiful self. Finding the style that feels ‘right’ for you. Instead of Googling “2023 wedding hairstyle trends,” ask yourself the following:
How do you usually wear your hair?
Are you more comfortable with it up or down?
What kind of dress are you wearing?
Bridal hair down styles are exquisite, and girls who love to wear their hair down will feel nothing less than perfect if they decide to go down this route for their wedding. The thing is, brides who choose to wear their hair down tend to be girls who always wear their hair down—bottom line, they feel the most comfortable, beautiful and confident with their hair down. It’s the same reasoning for brides who choose to wear their hair up—it just feels ‘right’ for them. Your wedding day is not the day to reinvent the wheel. You should ultimately feel like yourself.
That being said, we aren’t suggesting that finding inspiration through others for your wedding hairdo is a bad idea. In fact, we encourage Pinterest scrolling and saving so that your wedding hairstylist can better understand the look you’d like to achieve. With this, we can ensure the picture you are inspired by translates onto you just as effortlessly through pre-planning and customization to your specific hair type or features. Booking your wedding day hair trial is so crucial for avoiding any surprises on the big day. Only when recreating the style in real life do the little “oh no’s” come out.
We always recommend our brides plan their trial at least a couple months prior to their wedding day and if you can line it up with another bridal event, even better (I mean hello, perfect bachelorette hair). When recreating the hairstyle you’ve chosen, sometimes little questions will arise that could save you huge day-of headaches if addressed ahead of time:
Is your hair long enough for it to be safely secured all day?
Do you have enough hair to make the hairstyle look as voluminous and impressive as the photo you’ve seen?
Does it even look good with your hair texture and face shape?
No bride needs to be stressing out the week—or even worse—the day before their wedding. Whether you end up booking a Create Hair Space Co. wedding hairstylist or someone else, please, please, please book your wedding day hair trial.
What hairstyle best suits my wedding dress?
We write this next section with caution as there are no rules with what hairstyles you have to wear with certain styles of wedding dresses BUT here are some baseline tips for what typically make for great wedding dress/hair combinations:
Strapless Wedding Dresses look beautiful with an updo or half-up or half-down hairstyles. Tight, pulled-back updos are not always the best, because all you can see is forehead and neck; you might also choose a looser updo.
Ball Gown Wedding Dresses look best with dramatic, formal updos.
Boho/Beach Wedding Dresses look great paired with loose, flowing waves or curls. You can also opt for hair pulled up on the sides, but loose in the back. Pin a few flowers if your hair is really curly and can hold them.
Spaghetti Strap Wedding Dresses look lovely with soft waves or a loose, casual updo. For a modern, romantic look, keep hair down and wavy, but pull bangs back off the face.
Modern Wedding Dresses and Pantsuits look great with a sleek blow-out, or a sexy slicked-back formal ponytail.
Heavy Neckline Wedding Dresses or if there’s a lot going on in your chest area, such as wearing a spectacular necklace or a halter top dress, keep hair pulled up into an updo. You don’t want hair competing with the other neckline intricacies.
If you’re wearing your hair down and loose, make sure it hits below the top of your dress. Otherwise, it can make you look look boxy. If your hair isn’t long enough, you can get extensions just for the wedding or grow out your hair—or just do an updo.
Should I wear extensions on my wedding day?
Here’s the truth: Many to-be-weds consider hair extensions for their nuptials, but shy away from the idea because they’re unfamiliar or intimidating. But the process of getting hair extensions doesn’t have to be stressful. If you’re dreaming of a Pinterest-worthy style, your best bet is to use hair extensions for your wedding in order to get the length and volume you’re looking for. Adding in extensions can help you achieve thicker braids, fuller half-up styles, more dramatic updos and longer ‘dos.
Between clip-in extensions and more permanent hair extensions, there’s an option that will work for you. Consider how integrating extensions into your wedding day look can open up several different styling options. That boho fishtail braid you pinned could actually work with a little help from that extra purchase of hair—because 99 percent of the time the photo YOU LOVE on Pinterest is made by using some sort of hair extensions.
When should I cut/colour my hair before my wedding day?
Before you embark on this momentous change in your love life, we do not recommend embarking on any big changes in the hair department. Colour corrections and cuts should not take place too close to the wedding date. That being said, extensions are once again a great option as they can add an instant colour for brides who are tempted to switch up their hair before the big day. Colour maintenance or touch-ups should be done the week before the wedding to be super fresh—book well in advance so you can get as close to this timeline as possible. We do not recommend getting a haircut prior to the wedding as blunt ends can be difficult to style, specifically when pining into updos. Always feel free to speak to your hairstylist for their individual recommendations for your hair.
How should I prep my hair for wedding day styling?
Let us preface our answer to this question with the following: YOU know YOUR hair best. With having booked a wedding hair trial, you should already have a good idea on whether your prep plan will work for your big day, but if you find that your hair gets oily quickly, etc, your wedding day prep may differ. Always lean on the expertise of your hairstylist and knowledge of your own hair type.
Typically, we do not recommend washing your hair on the morning of your wedding— it needs to be a day old to properly hold any hairstyle. If you prefer to wash just before bed or simply don’t have any other time during your day (wedding rehearsals, etc.) we’ve got some bad news: Sleeping on wet strands leaves them more prone to friction, and thus, more prone to frizzies, tangles, and knots while you’re dozing away in dreamland.
Though it’s understandably so easy to take a soothing hot shower or bath and climb right into bed, you really should give locks enough time to air dry, or style them accordingly before letting that head hit the pillow. Waking up with frizz will just mean more morning styling time, so you’ll ultimately save yourself time and precious z’s by going to bed with dry hair. You can also buy a satin pillowcase, which not only feels super luxurious, but causes less friction on your mane as you toss and turn through the night.
Though you’ll likely spend the day before your wedding pampering everything from nails to skincare, it’s best to skip the hair mask. While in theory, a hair mask sounds like a good idea for your healthiest, shiniest wedding day hair, this is actually something a bride should reconsider. If the hair is too shiny and smooth, it can actually be more difficult for the hairstylist to work with and tends to not hold a style as long. Due to this issue, we suggest skipping the hair masks and deep conditioning treatments the night before the wedding and doing them the week before instead.
